This video animation tool does not seem to be in Debian:

However, there are some debs on the download page.

  • milestone changed from 0.4 to 0.5.

Patent-encumbered dependencies will be a problem with packaging this tool.

The binary debs are there but no source package is available.

I've contacted the author and I was told that only the python script is needed to run Myrtille and that the binary package on the download page is a quick & dirty one. Thus I'm going to prepare another Debian package.

  • priority changed from normal to low.
  • summary changed from Package Myrtille to Make Myrtille work with Totem.
  • milestone changed from 0.6 to 0.7.

Myrtille currently depends on mplayer, which we don't officially support. We should see if there is a way of making it work with Totem and the gstreamer plugins for video. Changing ticket summary...

  • version set to 1.0.
  • milestone changed from 0.7 to 1.0.

  • type changed from defect to enhancement.

  • summary changed from Make Myrtille work with Totem to Package Myrtille stop-motion animation tool.
  • version deleted.
  • milestone set to 3.0.

This program relies on mencoder, not just the playback functions of mplayer. It may be possible to adapt it to work with free codecs such as Theora.

  • priority changed from low to normal.
  • summary changed from Package Myrtille stop-motion animation tool to Add stop-motion animation tool to base install.
  • milestone changed from 3.0 to 2.0.

Here's an alternative package, called Stopmotion, it's already in Debian etch:

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.

(In [103]) * Added stopmotion (closes #55)

05/16/07 09:27:09 changed by daniel@64studio.com

  • keywords changed from myrtille animation to stopmotion animation.
  • status changed from closed to reopened.
  • resolution deleted.
  • summary changed from Add stop-motion animation tool to base install to Stopmotion needs FAM.

Stopmotion segfaults on startup, complaining that it cannot connect to FAM. Debian lists FAM as a 'suggests' package rather than a dependency, which seems to be a mistake.

Also, the menu entry for Stopmotion appears under both Graphics and Sound & Video. I don't think it should be under both, maybe Video is the best sub-category.

05/17/07 12:24:34 changed by free@64studio.com

  • summary changed from Stopmotion needs FAM to Stopmotion crashes on AMD64.

Even with fam and the other suggested packages installed stopmotion will keep crashing, that's probably an amd64-related bug. We need to report this upsream.

Latest package of stopmotion seems to work fine. It does need mencoder or ffmpeg to output movies though, neither package we can ship.
