samba seems broken in V2.1rc1

Severity: normal Keywords: samba

Description

Hello,

In a fresh install of V2.1pre1, the samba service is not shown in the services menu, and some samba-related packages appear to not be installed.

The missing packages are probably smbfs and libgnomevfs-extra + dependencies.

The packages are on the distribution DVD, but cannot be installed due to dependency problems.

libgnomevfs-extra cannot be installed because it attempts to unintstall lots and lots of packages. This might be because it is gnome 2.14 and not 2.20.

smbfs cannot be installed because of dependency problems with samba-common.

(See ticket #317 for V2.0 smb testing outcome, which is sort-of related.)

got that thanks.

One small issue remains.....

The windows shares cannot currently be browsed with nautilus. The reason being that the libgnomevfs2-extras package is needed.

Unfortunately, in 2.1-pre the package is out-of-date (version 2.14) and can't be intstalled due to version conflicts with gnome 2.20

Can a 2.20 version of libgnomevfs2-extras be provided?

The package was available in the backports repository, I've added it to the testing branch too. Thanks for the feedback.
